IIT Guwahati has successfully conducted GATE 2018 Civil Engineering (CE) on Feb 11. Last year, 1,18,147 students took GATE CE Paper out of which 18, 013 qualified the exam. GATE 2018 Result will be released on March 17, 2018.

- Session 2 – Geotechnical Engineering questions were perceived to be tougher than usual.
- The official answer keys are referred for evaluating GATE Scores. Based on official answer keys, the result is declared.
PSU recruitment through GATE – Apart from admissions in MTech/PhD courses, GATE 2018 Score is used by Public Sector Undertaking Companies or PSUs as well to recruit GATE qualified candidates on various posts. More than 50 PSUs including IOCL, ONGC, NTPC have shown interest in hiring through GATE. The recruitment in PSUs through GATE was started in 2012.

- Based on GATE Scores, candidates can appear in the PSU recruitment process.
- Post declaration of GATE Result, the score card will be released at GATE GOAPS.
- On the basis of cutoffs published by PSUs, candidates are called for the further selection rounds.
- The shortlisted candidates then have to appear for a Personal Interview (PI) round conducted by PSUs.
- Based on their performance in PI, the final selection is carried out.
- It should be noted, GATE cutoff for qualifying exam may vary with GATE PSU cutoff.
What is GATE?
GATE is a national level online exam conducted for 23 disciplines of engineering for admission to M.Tech/ Ph.D. and other Government Scholarships/Assistantships in the field of engineering and technology. The exam is organised by one of the 7 IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and IISc Bangalore on a rotational basis. This year, IIT Guwahati is the Organising Institute.
Apart from taking admissions in MTech/PhD programs, one can make use of GATE scorecard in PSU recruitment, direct recruitment to Group A level posts in Central Government and some other Government of India Organizations. Why apply for PSU through GATE?

Airport Authority of India (AAI) hires candidates on the basis of GATE score. The application form for the recruitment of candidates is available at www.aai.aero. Candidates with full time regular bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology in Civil/Electrical/Electronics with minimum 60% marks from a recognized/deemed university or from an apex Institution and having qualifying GATE marks on GATE Scorecard for the year 2016 are eligible to apply for the recruitment.

BARC recruitment through GATE
Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) recruits candidates for the post of Trainee Scientist Officer on the basis of GATE scores (GATE 2018/GATE 2017). The notification for the latest recruitment is yet to be released. It is expected that the application forms will be available in January 2018. There are 2 screening processes for recruiting candidates- GATE scores and written exam. Candidates can choose either of the options or both to maximize their chances of selection.

Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL) recruits candidates as Executive Trainee on the basis of GATE Scores. The application forms are expected to be released in the month of January 2018 at its official website. Candidates will get the basic pay of Rs. 16,400 – Rs. 40500 per month. The probation period of BBNL Executive Trainee is 12 months which starts from the date of appointment.

Bharat Heavy Electronics Limited (BHEL) hires Engineer Trainee through GATE score. Bank Note Paper Mill (BNPM) India Pvt. Ltd. hires Graduate Engineer Trainee on the basis of GATE score. Application forms will be available once the notification is released. The basic pay is Rs. 9300 – 34,800 per month. Candidates must satisfy the minimum eligilibity criteria of 60% marks in B.Tech to apply for BNPM recruitment through GATE 2018.

Bharat Petroleum recruits candidates for the post of Management Trainee solely on the basis of GATE 2018 score.
