Ken-Betwa River Linking Project Receives Green Signal from Panel
i. The Ken-Betwa River Linking Project received clearance from the green panel and Tribal
Affairs Ministry on January 13, 2017.
ii. The ambitious Rs. 9,393 crore project aims to transfer surplus water from the Ken River to
the Betwa basin through concrete canals to irrigate India’s worst drought-prone Bundelkhand
region.
iii. The project will benefit Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh in terms of meeting irrigation,
drinking water and electricity needs of people across 6 districts in the two states.
Ministry of Defence to Set up Rs 1500 cr Defence Unit in Madhya Pradesh
i. The Union Minister for Panchayati Raj and Rural Development, Narendra Singh Tomar
announced on January 31, 2017 that the Ministry of Defence is set to open its Defence
Unit in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh.
ii. The unit would be set up in Kailaras and Sabalgarh tehsil areas and span over 969.735
hectare of land at a cost of Rs. 1500 crore.
Madhya Pradesh Announces Total Ban on Polythene Bags from May 1, 2017
i. During the Republic Day address on January 26, 2017 in the state, Chief Minister of Madhya
Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced a complete ban on polythene carry bags from
May 1, 2017 in Madhya Pradesh.
ii. The decision aims to conserve environment, promote cleanliness and protect cows that
generally dies of eating plastic bags.
iii. For the proper implementation of the ban, the CM has given three months time to the
polythene manufacturers.
Anandam Scheme Launched in Madhya Pradesh to Help Poor
i. Madhya Pradesh government lead by Shivraj Singh Chouhan has launched Aanandam
programme of the newly-formed Aanand Department.
ii. Aim : To help the poor and the needed person.
iii. Aanandam scheme will help the poor people to get the daily needs like like jackets,
sarees, blankets, utensils, school bags from the wealthy people. For this particular place is
alloacted in each district to collect this items.
Madhya Pradesh Launches Digital Dakiya Scheme For Digital Literacy
i. Madhya Pradesh government inaugurated a first of its kind scheme of the country, “Digital
Dakiya” in Indore on January 14, 2017 to encourage cashless transaction in the state.
ii .Under the scheme, a Digital Postman referred as Digital Dakiya would visit door to door in
both urban and rural areas to train households specially women and elderly people about
digitized transactions

Madhya Pradesh government to set up Tourism Board
Shivraj Singh Chouhan lead by Madhya Pradesh government has decided to constitute Madhya
Pradesh Tourism Board for expansion of facilities at tourist spots and draw investment in the
sector.
About the Board :
i. MP Tourism Board would be a non-profit company and will be registered under the Companies
Act
ii. The board will take all responsibilities mentioned under Tourism Policy-2016.

Mil Banche Programme held in all Government Schools of Madhya Pradesh
i. An initiative by the government of Madhya Pradesh, “Mil Banche MP” (Let MP read
together) programme was held in all the primary and middle government schools of the
Madhya Pradesh on February 18, 2017 to increase knowledge and the understanding about
language among students..
ii. Under the programme, all the district administrators, government officials, public
representatives, college students, retired officials, businessmen, media persons, doctors,
engineers, sports persons and including common man will teach and interact with students of all
government schools of the state.
iii .As a part of the programme, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan also
visited the Sanjay Gandhi Middle School in Bhopal where he had studied during his childhood.
The Union Cabinet Approves Establishment of Food Legumes Research Platform (FLRP)
at Amlaha, Sehore, Madhya Pradesh
The Union Government chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on February 15, 2017
approved setting up of Food Legumes Research Platform (FLRP) at Amlaha, Sehore
in Madhya Pradesh for meeting the emerging food security challenges.
• FLRP would be set up by the by I nternational Center for Agricultural Research in
Dry Areas (ICARDA) with satellite hubs in West Bengal (for pulses) and Rajasthan (for
natural resource management).
• The Cabinet has also approved signing of lease deed with Madhya Pradesh
government for the land provided by them (70.99 hectare, 175.42 acre) at Amlaha
Farm, Sehore on land rent of Re 1 per acre per year for 30 years on lease and to further
lease it to ICARDA to establish the FLRP in the state.
• Besides, the cabinet gave in principle approval for conferring an international
status on the Food Legume Research Platform of ICARDA as contemplated in
Clause 3 of the United Nations (Privileges and Immunities) Act, 1947.
Khajuraho Dance Festival Starts in Madhya Pradesh
i. The Khajuraho Dance Festival kicked off at Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh from February 20,
2017. The seven day festival will conclude on February 26, 2017.
ii. The dance festival is conducted every year by the Madhya Pradesh Kala Parishad.
iii. This cultural festival showcases various Indian classical dance styles such
as Kathak, Bharathanatyam, Odissi, Kuchipudi, Manipuriand Kathakali with performances of some
of the best exponents in the field.
2-Day South Asian Speakers’ Summit Begins In Indore
i. The two-day South Asian Speakers’ Summit was inaugurated by LokSabha
Speaker SumitraMahajan in Indore, Madhya Pradesh on February 18, 2017
ii. Speakers of six countries includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka,
Maldives and Nepal attended the meeting to deliberate on ways to achieve sustainable
development goals.
iii. The summit will have a plenary session on ‘Identifying Resources for SDGs Implementation in
South Asia: Opportunities for Parliamentary Cooperation’
iv. A working session on ‘Gender Equality As A Critical Factor For Sustainable Development’ will
discuss opportunities that the SDGs present to strike a better gender balance and to determine
the gender impact of sustainable development policies.
v. This will conclude with the adoption of an ‘I ndore Declaration‘ at a closing ceremony on
February 18, 2017
Former MP JambuvantraoDhote passes away
i. Former Nagpur MP and firebrand leader JambuwantraoDhote passed away at
Yavatmal, Maharashtra on February 18, 2017. He is 78.
ii. Dhote is Popularly known as “Lion of Vidarbha” because he always stood for the cause of
separate Vidarbha
iii. He was also a legislator for two terms from Yavatmal district. Ge started his political career
with the Forward Bloc and later moved to the Congress in the late 70s before joining the Shiv
Sena.

Madhya Pradesh Presents 2017-18 Budget, Announces Deendayal Rasoi Yojna for Poor
The Madhya Pradesh Finance Minister Jayant Malaiya presented Rs.1,85,564.27 crore Budget for
2017-2018 in the state Assembly on March 1, 2017.
♦ The minister estimated the net expenditure to be Rs 1,69,954.46 crore with a revenue surplus
of Rs 4596.40 crore for 2017-18.
Deendayal Rasoi Yojna
i. The Minister announced Deendayal Rasoi Yojna and allocated a sum of Rs 10 crore for creating
necessary infrastructure to implement the scheme in order to provide food at subsided rate to the
poor in urban areas.
ii. The Year 2017 is the birth centenary year of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya and will be
celebrated as ‘Garib Kalyan Varsh’.
iii .To mark the occasion, ‘Deendayal Rasoi Yojna’ is being launched in selected urban areas of the
state.
iv. The state Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced to provide the meal to the poor
for Rs 5 initially in four major listed cities.
v. The funds for the scheme will be arranged through the donations received from corporate
sector under Corporate Social Responsibility.

x. Rs 10 crore was allocated for setting up a ‘Vedant Peeth’ at Omkareshwar as a mark of respect
to Adiguru Shankaracharya.
xi .In addition, a ‘Vir Bharat Nyas’ will be set up with an initial provision of Rs 9 crore to preserve
the memories of martyrs.
xii. In an effort to improve e-governance infrastructure, Rs 25 crore was assigned for the
expansion of state data centre.
Tribal festival ‘Bhagoria’ Begins in Jhabua
i. Bhagoria Festival, also known as Bhagoria Haat Festival, celebrated by the tribal people of
the Indian state Madhya Pradesh began on March 6, 2017 in Jhabua district
ii. The festival which has been organized at 34 places in the state is celebrated in the month of
March before the Holi Festival by the local tribes called Bhils and Bhilalas.
President Appoints New Chief Justices in MP, Patna, Kerala, Chattisgrah, Jharkhand HCs
The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee announced the appointment of new Chief
Justices in the state of Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Patna and Jharkhand High
Courts on March 10, 2017.
Madhya Pradesh High Court: Justice Hemant Gupta, Judge of the Patna High Court appointed
to be the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
World’s Oldest Plant-Like Fossils Found In India
i. Scientists from Swedish Museum of Natural History have found two kinds of fossils resembling
red algae in uniquely well-preserved sedimentary in Chitrakoot, Madhya Pradesh
ii. One type is thread-like, the other one consists of fleshy colonies.This algae is 1.6 billion years
old which will be the oldest evidence of plant-like life found on the Earth.
iii. The Indian fossils are 400 million years older and by far the oldest plant-like fossils

MP govt. to launch Hindu priesthood diploma course Purohityam - religion no bar
The Madhya Pradesh Government-run Maharshi Patanjali Sanskrit Sansthan plans to launch one
year diploma course from July 2017 known as “Diploma in Purohityam “ for teaching
priesthood.
Madhya Pradesh government DMRC to ink pact to supply power from Rewa Project
Power Purchase agreement (PPA) has signed between Delhi Metro Railways
Corporation (DMRC) & Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company (MPPMC) with Rewa
Ultra Mega Solar Limited, the implementing agency for the ‘world’s largest single site solar power
project’, the Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Project (UMSPP, 750MW) in Bhopal on April
17,2017 by Shri Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal, New & Renewable
Energy and Mines.
• Rewa UMSPP had achieved historic results with a record low first year tariff of Rs 2.97 per
unit of electricity and a levelised tariff of Rs 3.30 over the term of 25 years.
Madhya Pradesh bans plastic/ polythene bag from May 1
The Madhya Pradesh government has planned to ban Plastic and Polythene bag from 1st of
May. It has been done because of the numbers of cow death across the state.
Bhopal to have India’s first privately run Railway station
For the first time in Indian Railway’s history Habibganj station in Bhopal has been handed over
to Private firm to be operated by it.
Key Points:
i. The station building will be developed in line with airport terminals but trains at the station will
be run by the Railways.
ii. During 2016-2017 Rs 10,181 crore was earned by Indian railways which Indian railway want
to increase to Rs 14000 crore to this fiscal year.
Deendayal Rasoi Yojana launched in 49 districts of MP
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has launched subsidized meal scheme at
Rs.5 in Gwalior. This scheme helps people to get economical nutritious and good quality food
under the Deendayal Rasoi Yojana at cheaper rates. It is launched in 49 districts across the
state.
i. The scheme includes 49 districts in first phase. Under this scheme the poor people will get four
chapattis, one vegetable curry and dal everyday between 11 am to 3 pm.
ii. Breakfast will be served at Rs 5 and lunch will be served at Rs.8. All these arrangements will be
done by Level Coordination And Monitoring Commiittee in which they will monitor all aspects
of scheme and at least 2000 people will serve every day.
iii. The budget of this scheme is Rs 10 crore and it will be funded by Corporate Sector Under
Corporate Social Responsibility.
MP E-Nagarpalika APP launched by Madhya Pradesh to provide Municipal Services
Online
The Madhya Pradesh government has launched mobile application MP e-Nagarpalika to provide
various municipal services online. The App was launched by Chief Minister of Madhya
Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
♦ The mobile app is the part of Rs 225-crore e-nagarpalika project, under which all municipal
services would be made available online on a unified web platform

I ndia opens small arms manufacturing unit in MP in a joint venture with Israel
Punj Lloyd Ltd and JV partner Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) has inaugurated the
country's first private sector small arms manufacturing plant at Malanpur in Madhya
Pradesh.
i. It aims to manufacture small arms in the plant for the Indian defence forces and also for
exports.
ii. It is the first time to get its own 'Made in I ndia' small arms.
iii. Total cost of this programme is Rs 200 crore for fabrication and assembly facility for defence
systems, primarily for small arms.
PM Modi launches Narmada Seva Mission in Madhya Pradesh
On May 15, 2017, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched ‘Narmada Seva Mission’, which
enlists steps to be taken for the conservation of the Narmada River in Madhya Pradesh. PM
Modi launched this mission document at the concluding ceremony of the ‘Namami Devi
Narmade Sewa Yatra’ at Amarkantak in Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh. Amarkantak
is the origin place of River Narmada.
About ‘Namami Devi Narmade Sewa Yatra’:
‘Namami Devi Narmade Sewa Yatra’, an awareness campaign for conservation of River Narmada
was launched by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on December 11,
2016 from Amarkantak.
• A core team of 50 sevaks covered a distance of 1831 km on the southern bank of
the river and 1513 km on the northern bank passing through nearly 1100 villages and towns. Various public functions and events were organised along the course of the yatra for involving masses in this conservation campaign.
• Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan and spiritual leader Dalai Lama extended support to this campaign.
Madhya Pradesh govt announces indefinite ban on sand mining in Narmada river
The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a total ban on sand mining in Narmada
River.
i. The river flows through 18 districts in Madhya Pradesh and the ban will be effective in all 18
districts.
ii. The state government has also imposed a complete ban on use of all kinds of machines for
mining from the remaining rivers in the state.
MP first to switch to Jan-Dec fiscal year
Madhya Pradesh became the first state in India to switch to the January-December financial
year from existing April-March cycle.
i. It will break a 150-year old tradition of adopting the financial year from April to March.
ii. This practice of April-March financial year was adopted by the British Government in 1867.
iii. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan decided to shift the financial year to January-
December.
I ndore is I ndia’s cleanest city, UP’s Gonda dirtiest: Swachh Bharat survey
On May 4, 2017 Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu released 3rd edition of the
Swachh Survekshan which ranked 434 Indian cities on various cleanliness parameters. I ndore
in Madhya Pradesh emerged as the cleanest city and Gonda in Uttar Pradesh ranked at the
bottom as the dirtiest city.
Data for compiling the rankings were provided by municipal corporations and independent
assessors. Quality Council of I ndia deployed 421 assessors for on the spot assessment of
17,500 locations in 434 cities and towns.

Mysuru, which was holding the top spot since past two surveys, slipped to No. 5 position this
time.
• 50 out of 62 cities of Uttar Pradesh in the survey ranked below 300. 5 out of bottom 10
cities are of Uttar Pradesh.
• Varanasi, which is PM Modi’s contituency has registered a meteoric rise in rankings. In
2014, it ranked 418th, in 2016 it ranked 65th and in 2017 it ranked 32nd.
• Cities of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh have been best performers in terms of
improvement in rankings.
• West Bengal State Govt. did not participate in Swachh Sarvekshan 2017, thus its cities
have not been ranked.
I I T Kharagpur Signs MoU with Madhya Pradesh For Measuring Happiness Index
I I T Kharagpur’s Rekhi Centre of Excellence for the Science of Happiness has signed a MoU
with Madhya Pradesh government’s ‘Rajya Anandam Sansthan. It is a Department of
Happiness.
Key Notes:
i. The MoU has been signed to collaborate on the development of a Happiness Index for
measuring the well-being of the residents of the state.
ii. The Happiness index would be developed by IIT-KGP and the data collected by the state
government.
Madhya Pradesh Assembly declares Narmada living entity
Madhya Pradesh government has passed a law in the state to give recognition to Narmada
River.
i. A special session of the state Assembly passed the resolution granting the 1312-km-
long Narmada.
ii. It provides all legal rights of a person or a living entity to ensure “conservation of aquatic
bio-diversity linked with the purity and continual flow of the river”.
Ex-Madhya Pradesh minister Pratap Singh Baghel passes away
Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh minister Pratap Singh Baghel had passed away.
He was 70.
i. He was also elected Member of Parliament from Dhar in 1985.
ii. Pratap Singh had served as minister in MP twice.
iii. He was elected MLA from Kukshi in 1972, 1977 and 1980.
Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dave Passes Away
Union environment minister Anil Madhav Dave has passed away. He was 60.
i. He was born in Barnagar in Madhya Pradesh.
ii. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha in August 2009.
iii. He was sworn in as a minister with independent charge of environment, forest and climate
change.
iv. Dave took charge as Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in July 2016.

I ndore has become the first city in I ndia where a robot is being used on an experimental
basis to control its ever growing and unruly traffic.
i. The traffic police in association with a private engineering college of the city for the first time
installed a metallic robot at a busy MR 9 intersection on an experimental basis to control the
chaotic traffic in the locality.
ii. This robot has been designed and manufactured by two professors of an engineering
college of the city, Prof Rahul Tiwari and Aniruddh Sharma.
I ndia and ADB Sign $275 Million Loan for Upgrading Urban Services in 64 Small Towns
in Madhya Pradesh
The GOI and Asian Development Bank has signed USD 275 million loan for a piped water
supply project for rapidly urbanising small towns. It will cover 3 lakh households in 64 small
towns in Madhya Pradesh.
i. The state government will provide a USD 124 million counterpart support for the project.
ii. As per ADB it will be completed by June 2022.
iii. It will develop sustainable, inclusive and climate resilient water supply in 64 small
and mid-sized towns.
Madhya Pradesh government launches farmers’debt relief scheme, allocates Rs 1,000
crore
Madhya Pradesh government has launched a new debt relief scheme “Krishi Rin Samadhan
Yojana” for farmers.
i. The cabinet has allocated Rs 1,000 crore for the scheme.
ii. Under this scheme, the interest rate on loans would be less which would in turn also help
defaulting farmers get loan.
iii. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore for the kith and the kin of the dead farmers.

Madhya Pradesh sets record with plantation of 6 cr saplings in day The Madhya Pradesh government has set a record of 6 cr saplings were planted in 24 districts
of Narmada basin in just 12 hours.
i. MP government has undertook a massive plantation drive on 2 July 2017 to save the
environment and for the conservation of the Narmada River.
ii. The plantation drive that started from 7 am continued till 7 pm along the banks of the
river covering 24 districts of the state.
iii. The arrangement for 3 Cr saplings was done by the forest department, while the remaining
3 Cr were provided by other departments and private nurseries.

Control Programme
Shala Siddhi Prohatsan Yojana started in 25,000 MP schools
Madhya Pradesh’s school education department is going to start programmes such as
'Hamari Shala Kaisi Ho' and 'Shala Siddhi Karyakram' in all government schools of the state.
i. It aims to provide qualitative education to the government school students.
ii. The State Education Centre has also started Shala Siddhi Prohatsan Yojana under the
programme in 25 thousand schools of the state to encourage best works.
iii. A time table has also been fixed for the award process going by the time table, the district
core committees would be required to form block-level selection committees by 22nd July.
MP CM Chouhan launches RSS website
The Madhya Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has launched the RSS website on 10th of
July 2017.
i. At a programmeorganized in Bhopal on 10th of July for the dedication of Rashtriya
